I've heard that phrase used by a great many other people online and in podcasting and not often do I feel it's being used with any irony.

I also wouldn't know about Louis CK as I think his brand of "say something shocking and know your audience will smuggly laugh" is a bore.

Re: 35mm Heroes Podcast Ep#118: American Pie – Reunion Review

Its good to hear about leftfield cinema such as the Sundance festival in London. I just find it ridiculous that someone critiques the use of the phrase "white peoples' problems" on the basis of its lack of political correctness by describing the phrase as "retarded". The phrase "white peoples' problems" is generally used with a sense of irony, for instance by the excellent comedian Louis CK. Its a joke, and not meant literally. I don't really see the irony involved in using the word retard as a pejorative.

Re: Can Robert Pattinson shake off the Twilight baggage?

Just curious ... have you actually read his interviews when he is ASKED an intelligent question for example his last one in Premiere France. He is actually a extremely intelligent man when ASKED a question with some intelligence in it. Not the typical...why was the sex scene cut..whats it like to weat gold contacts...I mean come on who doesnt look silly asking the same mundane, idiotic questions a hundred times in a row. I suggest you read the article I mentioned above or listen to how Cronenberg talks about Robs intelligence in all areas but especially in theater and the history of it and films.

Re: Can Robert Pattinson shake off the Twilight baggage?

All his roles to date - and, to a certain extent, the way he comes across in many interviews

Re: Can Robert Pattinson shake off the Twilight baggage?

Just curious - when you write "the vapid vacuum of charisma Robert Pattinson" are you saying this based on Edward Cullen or him in all his roles?

Re: Retro Review: Deliverance (35th Anniversary Deluxe Edition)

Check out Chiddy Bang`s `Mind Your Manners` Videof ft Icona Pop! http://shar.es/2xgBn via @sharethis

Re: Retro Review: Deliverance (35th Anniversary Deluxe Edition)

Ha! That scene has stayed with me for years. When I first saw it I just sat there shellshocked. Although I've never been one to care about being spoiled, I can understand people's frustration with these trailers divulging far too much information. That's not to say I know the entire plot of Prometheus from the trailer alone but these constant streams of new trailers showing just a little bit more everytime needs to stop.

Re: Can Robert Pattinson shake off the Twilight baggage?

I believe any actor can be salvaged by way of good direction. All Kristen Stewart needs is a director to say "hey sweetheart, lose the shitty unchanging facial expression and just try to put across some true emotion for once....or you'll be out on your ass!" - nothing motivates like a bit of a ribbing from a "boss".

As of Pattinson, I think he'll pull through the tween shit and mould into a fine actor. Teaming up with Cronenberg is a great start. If Tarantino can resurrect travolta, and Favreau with Downey Jr, anything is possible.

Re: DVD Review: The House By The Cemetery

Pretty spot-on review. Maybe it would have worked better as an episode of Tales of the Unexpected or Hammer House of Horror, but it wasn't and we got what we got, which was a well-made film that was doomed to receive a negative reaction before the cameras even started rolling.
